Hundreds Turn Out To Goldens Bridge Fire Department Community Day

A live burn with firefighters battling real flames in a makeshift house and daring rope bailout maneuvers from a second-story window were among a series of action-packed demonstrations during the Goldens Bridge Fire Department's Third Annual Community Day.

Pumpkins for all

Several hundred residents and fans of the department turned out for the recent event that included a little of everything from learning about fire safety to painting pumpkins to enjoying a good old hot dog.

"It really brings together the entire community and the Fire Department family,” said GBFD Fire Chief James McManus. “It’s our way of thanking residents for their support.

One of the main reasons for the event was to inform residents about fire safety and how important it was to have a family plan and to know what to do in case of a fire.

At this year’s event, there was a special dedication ceremony of the American Legion World Wars monument, a 4-ton granite stone affixed with a pair of bronze plaques inscribed with the names of 76 Goldens Bridge residents who served in WWI and WWII.

The monument was recently relocated from its previous home, the Community House in Old Goldens Bridge, to its new home at the Goldens Bridge Firehouse.

Other emergency services agencies that participated included the Lewisboro Police Department, Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Westchester County Police, and State Police.
